Fire Sale And Various Things…

We’re currently having our summer sale at Audio Damage, if you didn’t get the info through one of the roughly 3,000 media outlets it appeared in prior to me putting it here. Enter the code BURNINGUP at checkout for 30% off the contents of your cart. This sale will last until Friday at midnight CST. We’ve also put the Rough Rider Rack Extension on sale in the Props store. The way their tiers work out, it ended up being more like 33% off or something. (Maths aren’t my strong suit.)

EDIT: The sale is over. Thanks for everyone’s support! A smashing success!

It was noted on the AD Facebook page that having a Fire Sale because the two states where the company resides in are on fire might be in poor taste. I retorted that in the Western United States, fires are quite common this time of year, and while they occasionally (as is the case with the Colorado Springs situation, nowhere near our offices) make national news, they are a constant, not a rarity. So while it may seem to be in poor taste to use this situation as kind of a humorous aside, in the context of where we live and work, it’s a daily occurrence, met with resignation and perseverance, not fear or sadness (unless things get out of hand, which they rarely do, and it’s not like we don’t see the damn things coming for days). Thus, ripe for self-depreciating humor. We live in the places we live by choice, not necessity. People that live on the flood plain of the Mississippi get floods. People that live in Fargo, North Dakota get hard winters. People that live in a forest in a hot, dry climate get fires. That’s just the way of things.

In other news, as I mentioned in the previous post, I started my other blog, 1 and 7/8ths. I generally try to avoid making subjective statements about songs here on AI; conversations about song quality among musicians are the most tedious conversations devised by man. Since 1 7/8ths is meant for civilians for the most part, it is virtually all subjective observations from yours truly. Give it a couple weeks and you’ll see the general tenor of what I’m attempting there; whether that’s your bag or not is entirely up to you. If it is, please spread the word.

Also, that site showcases the latest iteration of my wife’s content management system (“blog software” in English). If you need a CMS and you don’t want to have to spend all your time tuning the spam catchers on a Wordpress install, a bespoke site like that is the way to go, as unique sites get virtually no spam. That software is available, and highly customizable. There’s a link at the bottom of the page to her site if you want to contact her about getting that package running for yourself.

EDIT: I have been Informed that I worded that poorly; using “CMS” as a descriptor implies that the blog package is a ready-to-install blob o’ software you can just buy and put in; that is not the case. It is, as I said, bespoke (for non-native-English speakers, bespoke = custom-made, one of a kind), and is customized to each individual use case. This site and 1 & 7/8ths, along with a few others, run iterations of this software, so it is torture-tested over several years. But it isn’t a one-size-fits-all-add-some-pictures and you’re good to go kind of situation. Didn’t mean to imply that it was.
