Samplin' Fool...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

I’m doing a fairly monstrous sample set of this alphaSyntauri, and now that I’m in the thick of things with Kontakt (I’m doing it all in Kontakt 2 for compatibility’s sake; it seem that many more people own 2 than 3) I’m at a crossroads.

As I implied in the previous thread, I don’t just get little snippets when I’m sampling. I generally mine the entirety of any given sound, or at least enough so that whatever cycle the synth is doing with its envelopes and such can be replicated. Obviously, using a sampler like Kontakt allows a lot to be done after the fact, and my question is thus:

When you buy a sample set, do you want just the raw samples laid out as if you were at the real thing, or would you prefer instruments that perhaps extend the capabilities of a given sample set, yet utilize the features of the host sampler? Personally, I figure they’re there to be used, and I wouldn’t have thought anything of using the envelopes and filters in my dearly departed Emax II. How is Kontakt or ESX24 different?
