DIY Tube Amp? Pt. 2

Got a nice shiny new Jensen Special Design 12” speaker from Tube Depot from the FedEx man today, and loaded it up in to the cabinet I built on Sunday. This thing sounds fucking fantastic. Here’s a shot of the back:

All I have to do now is make a soffit for the speaker, then display some adaptability viz. the grill cloth and tolex. I’m gonna hit a couple thrift shops this weekend and see what I can come up with. I’d like to do a burgundy faux tolex and red grill cloth, but it’ll really depend on what I find.

As far as the sound goes, just imagine the guitar tone on “Hoist That Rag” from Tom Waits’ recent Real Gone album. It isn’t extremely loud (nothing like an AC15 or similar), but it breaks up at a nice handy volume. Once I finish building the cabinet, I’ll put up some samples.
