I thought it was finally here...

From the original Analog Industries archive. Some links and images from that era no longer resolve.

..but I was sorely mistaken. One of the many kookie ideas I’ve had for VST plug-ins was a VSTi version of a circuit-bent Speak & Spell. Since I’m fairly confident that Adam would be, in a word, nonplussed about such a thing, I don’t think I’ve brought it up to him. Or maybe I have. I don’t know.

In any case, it’s enough to know I’ve pondered such things. I wouldn’t be entirely sure about how to go about it, truth be told. But I’ve always kind of thought it was my idea to do with as I saw fit, since no one else seems to have any inclination to make such a thing. That’s when my stomach lurched while I was reading createdigitalmusic.com today, and came across a link to this site, Roilnoise.com. I just saw the picture, the words “download,” “Mac,” and “PC,” and assumed the worst had happened, and clicked, without reading the article itself.

Come to find out, these cats made a reasonable Flash simulacra of a bent Speak ‘n’ Spell. While it’s fun and all, for like a minute, all it is is a collection of samples of a bent Speak ‘n’ Spell. It’s not actually doing any math, nor bending any real speech synthesis in real time. Thus, it’s not what I wanted to do, and my Big Idea is still safe. Unless, of course, someone actually reads this blog and rips me off. But I know you’re all here for the free shit on the download page, so I don’t have to worry too much about that, when it comes down to it.
