Tunnel Vision...

Tunnel Vision

So we had a board meeting over at ADHQ last month, and decided that we wouldn't drop any info at all about the next AD plug until the day it went on sale. The reasons for this were largely marketing-related. When I put up the videos on YouTube and the teasers here before-hand, they get a shitload of views, and we were hoping that if we were gonna get those anyhow, we might as well take advantage of the situation and actually have a product, you know, for sale and stuff.

It's killing me, I gotta be honest.

I want to talk about this thing soooooo bad. Adam completed a crucial puzzle piece today, and now the thing actually works, after a fashion; it is missing a large chunk of personality, but it has its brains, for the most part. You already know that it is an instrument, of course. I can also say that it is generally aimed at percussion-oriented duties, although it isn't a drum machine, in the strictest sense of the phrase, and it can do music just fine, as long as you aren't too particular about what the word "music" means.

The only other thing I can say is that all the pieces are in place now, and it's really just a matter of hooking everything up at this juncture. Everything we needed to invent for this plug has done been invented, so the license-plate making part of the operation has now commenced.

God damn, this is killing me.

So, you're posting to tell us about a product that you can't tell us about, and to tell us that you can't tell us about it?
That's a sin.

The whole issue of discussing/exposing your process is an interesting one. I'm told all the time to just keep my yap shut if I know what's good for me. Maybe talk about it in retrospect, but not in advance. There are numerous perils, or so my friends say.

But I'm not good at keeping my yap shut. As is well known on this blog.

It's an interesting topic: the decision to expose or not expose artistic or technical process. Numerous artistic, economic and social ramifications.

Still I do it. If something interesting happens on the way to making the thing I'm making, I'm usually gonna post it on Soundcloud, at least for a little while. Feels right to me.

I thought companies went through a lot of trouble to produce that kind of hype and anticipation before a product is released. Isn't that just marketing 101?

I guess that's why I'm not a business man.

I'm stroking my chin whiskers and making a sound like "hmmmm..."

I gotta say your plan (or Adam's plan) makes sense, who knows how many people would buy something in the heat of the moment, but give them a couple weeks to look at it and cool down... Based on my on tendency to do just that, no to mention my frequent use of ellipsis, I think it just might work.

I'm trying to swear off buying shit for a while, but damn if you're vague description isn't close to something on my exception list.
