DroneStation 1.1.0 Now Available...
Post Comment
The kind and wonderful folks at the Apple App Store Review Dungeon have finally approved the DroneStation 1.1.0 update.

UPDATES:

1. Tilt controls filter cutoff, in user-selectable amount.

2. New user interface. (Now with 100% more blobs.)

3. Help screen added.

4. Note name/frequency bug fixed.

5. Now (should) work fine with iPhone OS 2.2.1 or greater. This means that (theoretically) people that had the "you can't use this on your Touch because you don't have a mic" bug should be able to buy and use the app now. If one of those people would grab it and let me know if that's actually the case, I'd be much appreciative.

6. Added a 1/8th inch-wide dead space between the left-hand controls and the right-hand control, to lessen accidental triggering.

Anyhow, 'tis here if you don't already own it. The upgrade is free and available in the usual manner (via in-device upgrade or iTunes upgrade) if you do already have it. Still $1.99.

I've either found a pretty big bug or I'm missing something: I can't hear the sine oscillators. The most I can get is a quick click or a chirp sound (depending on the filter resonance). All other oscs sound fine.

To reproduce: set both osc's to sine and try to play around.

Nevermind. Once you get around the E1 range the sine just disappears from the speakers whereas the other oscs are clearly audible.

Whee! tilt and blorp fun time in studio together with nature

'Tis the nature of sine waves. Almost impossible to hear on the built-in speaker with the low notes. The other waves have enough harmonic content in the higher frequencies for the low notes to be audible in the internal speaker, but not so with the sine. Keep in mind that speaker only goes to about 180Hz on the low side.

@CR - Good job, as always...

I have both your naughty panther apps. I would really like to be ble to load my sounds into plinkton, is this a feature you consider adding?

Yes. The Plinkton update, which I'll begin working on as soon as we've got Tattoo out and this other thing I'm doing on contract that I can't talk about, will get rid of the OpenFrameworks stuff and get a much nicer OpenGL display. It will also have way more internal sounds, the ability to load other sounds, several more player plinktons, and (theoretically) effects.

At least that's my plan. I'm not sure how that will survive contact with the enemy. At the very least, loading external sounds is on the menu.

The update looks great! I liked DroneStation as it was, but this is even better.

I'm excited to hear about the planned update for Plinkton. I was dicking around with Plinkton at work the other day, I got a cool little ambient groove going and before I even realized it, I had been listening to it for 15 minutes. ha! The ability to load custom sounds would be really awesome!

re 5: the app store let me install on my iPod Touch now; problem solved, thanks

Ditto on the Plinkton update! plenty of other iPhone audio apps allow a convenient wireless connection via browser to upload and download your own samples...
