Big ups to Jeffrey @ Ground Kontrol for the loan of his 808 and 909. Having them both here, "side by each" in the vernacular, is fairly pleasant, and is something I could get used to. Unfortunately, I'm not rich.

I scored a super cheap mint 909 via evilBay on Labor Day. 12 hours later one went for 2x what I paid. I think everyone was out BBQing because stuff was going for dirt cheap left and right.

Hey now, I'm by no means rich either, but I bought my pair when they were far cheaper ($650 for the 808 and $1000 for the 909)... still, it's do-able if you keep your eyes open for a good deal.

actually, 909s have dropped in price in the UK a lot. they're out of fashion. so are 303s. 808s and 101s, however, are what all the retro kids want. but they don't want their instruments so full of techno, really.

Why on earth would you not want something as full of techno as the 909? I mean, that box isn't even full of Techno. It is entirely _comprised_ of Techno. It's the event horizon of Full Of Techno-ness.

Having a 808/909 plus samples sounds like a fine way of life.

@idiotboy: I'm not poor, but I can't afford to just go out and buy a 909 on a whim at the current prices. I could charge one if I had to.
