Okay, it's been a long time since I've done this. While we're in our between-product-downtime, I'm going to open the floor to suggestions as to what Audio Damage should make next.

Obviously, we already have a fairly good idea of what we're going to be doing, but we haven't started yet, and that means we haven't actually committed yet. So there is a chance, however remote, that your idea could be better than our idea, and we'll do that next instead.

So, let's have it. The usual ground rules apply. For people that haven't been part of this before, posts like "A synth!!!111!ZOMG" are stupid and no one really cares, so don't bother. We don't do clones any more, so "you should make a clone of a Dingleberry 3000" is pointless. Tubes, spring reverbs, and tape emulation can't be done at the current state of DSP, at least not anywhere near something that could be considered worth a shit, and anyone that says otherwise is a balls-out liar or stone deaf, so don't bother mentioning tubes, tape, springs, or any combination thereof.

With that out of the way, bring that shit. What do you want to see us build?

Comments:
Maybe dull for you, but I would like to finally find a multi-chorus type of effect that really creates the sound of >lots< of voices. Something that would make a plain sawtooth wave sound like a huge ensemble, without cyclic LFO sounds. A bit different than the diffusion chorus... more random. Nobody has done this well so far.

- Possibly done with random frequency shifting/delays
- Random panning and volume changes etc.
- maybe a granular approach?

Oh, and make sure it has a tube-driven spring reverb with tape emulation.

1. some sort of Ensoniq DP4-type thing.

2. similarly, a looper of the actual real-time audio recording and manipulation type. Just complex enough to have real depth, with multi-outputs, phattish filters, and 12bit / granular-ness. Sort of like an Electrix Repeater. And, obviously, so much better than the looper in Live 8 that no-one would ever use the Live version.

ha.. don't hold your breath on the DP4 idea.. i recall CR had some not too flattering remarks about the usefulness of the DP4.

as far as beat re-arrangers go.. the one i miss from the PC is Vreorder. it was my favorite and to me very musical and sort of smooth or able to do a kind of fluttering background thing when used on a send that was less obvious than a lot out there. though w/automaton i'm certainly missing Vreorder a lot less. i liked the interface a lot though because it was simple and linear.

i don't have any idea what i'd like to see from AD... there's already so much on offer for so many purposes. combining various AD plugs in a chain goes a long long way.

granular is always good but would have to be realtime and somehow a new twist on the idea since there's a lot out there already especially in reaktor land. granular reverb or some kind of envelope shaping device or something would be cool though.

hmm...what do I use most automatically that AD doesn't already provide, even for reference? The only thing I can think of is an EQ...but, that is kind of boring...how about rethinking that and make an un-eq? Something that can randomize specific frequencies with some kind of control and give me options for sounds I wouldn't necessarily think of immediately?

Other than that, I'm always game for beefed up filters...how about a set of inexpensive specific filters beefed up AD style served up in the pricing range of vapor, fluid and liquid...Sometimes a brutha just wants a really badass LP with some mojo...

1. What I'd love is a pitch shifter/frequency shifter/ringmod. Something like a combination between Discord, and Logic's Ringshifter.

2. A vocoder/filterbank would be cool as well, no need for a carrier if it supported side-chaining, although a relatively simple synth circuit would do the trick

I don't think I can ever have enough bit-crushy, resolution-reducing effects. I bet Audio Damage could make a very versatile bitcrusher that works effectively for mangling melodic instruments as well as destroying drums.

LFO/VST - more or less a software equivalent of the Moog MP201 ...something that just generates LFOs as MIDI CC controllers in different wave forms and that can be synched....while lots of effects have their own internal LFO ....a boatload of them do not and you only have two hands to twist with anyway..so to be able to assign a triangle wave to to a knob on any VST would be a way cool way to get 'mother's little helpers'

Something inspired/informed by the Sherman Filterbank.

how about some kind of combination delay / multimode filter, maybe with some sort of sequencer and a mod source? lol.
