I don't expect the vast majority of my readers (the ones who
aren't in American touring industrial bands, which is, let's be honest, most all of you) to know who Gary Czaplewski is, so I'll give a little back-story. Gary is a promoter in Milwaukee that has bought shows from virtually every touring industrial band for the last dozen-odd years. He's one of the few Good Guys in this industry. He always gives bands what they ask for, does his best on the rider (or at least the reasonable parts), and sticks to a contract like glue. I will absolutely vouch for him; he is on my list of first-call promoters, as I can always rely on an early confirmation, usually for a date I wanted in the first place. Anyone who has tried to book a tour will know how important it is to have good promoters you can rely on, and Gary is absolutely one of those.
Anyhow, that's the general idea. Gary has hit a spot of fairly bad luck, as the house he lived in and supported his ailing mother burnt to the ground last week, taking virtually everything he owned with it. There was essentially nothing salvageable from the fire, so he and his mother are at square one.
Now, I know you don't know Gary in all likelihood, and probably will never need him to buy a show from you. But if you could spare a little bit, it would really make a difference. There are a lot of readers of this blog, and to me that looks like a big slab of help just lying around waiting for something to do. Whether you know him or not, this guy is in our business, and he definitely doesn't deserve this. Please send a little good karma his way; you'll feel better, and he and his mom will actually be better for it. Here is a page that has a Paypal donation link; if even half of the daily readers of AI give just a buck or two, that'll end up being a fairly big chunk of money, which will really help. Gary's Livejournal blog is here, if you're interested in the fire and how he's dealing with it.
Comments:
Chris, the Paypal link isn't working here. Can you check it out again and make sure it's right.

Bah. Didn't realize there was a session ID. I've changed the link. It now goes to another Livejournal page that has the Paypal link. If anyone can parse the Paypal donation link code out of that, send it to me and I'll add the button here.
Gary didn't ask me to do this, I'll note, which is why I don't have the button.

You could always just add the e-mail address for his Paypal account to the post so people can at least do the manual transfer. The e-mail associated with that donate button is:

As a fan of industrial, I often wondered why major acts would head straight to Milwaukee and not stop in Chicago. Thought it was strange their industrial market was larger than ours. Now I know it's partly because of Gary's fine works. Will donate when I get home from work.
