Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em...
Post Comment

I always thought "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" was the best album name ever conceived. There's literally no reason I would mention that fact in this post other than the mood struck me.

I gave my MD and MM a workout this afternoon. Except for the lil' Replicant chops on the MD part, this lil' ditty is 100% pure Elektron, soup to nuts. Obviously, I got a bit carried away with myself, and you're treated to a wonderful view of my elbow for some minutes. Boney, ain't it?

I was so certain that was gonna be a Rickroll...

In any event, the video is most certainly not gone. Works fine here.

I see you've still fought off the UW urge, which surprises me, given your apparent predilection for the E12 machines.

I'm actually not that fond of the E12 sounds, frankly. I don't think there are any in that piece; I'd have to check to be sure. I'm pretty sure it's all synthesized sounds.

That said, I've been pondering getting a second MD, and that would definitely be a UW. Would be nice to stick some of my own sounds in for various purposes. There's no real need for one at this point. What I _do_ wish I had was the 64-steps of the Mk II. I seem to have an annoying tendency to get the patterns backwards when I go to chain a pair, and 64 steps would obviate this nicely.

What I really want is another pair of rack ears, though. I've been completely and utterly unsuccessful in purchasing them. I have one pair, but apparently the Elektron Gods only allow one per customer, no matter how many Elektron products you purchase. I've ordered them from AH and BCM to no avail.

EDIT: I guess you're right. That patch is roughly half E12. Go figure. I don't normally use them. Not sure what I was thinking.

Really like the track, I'm not writing anything that good, but I do have the Mk1 UW and Mono, the UW allows you to sample and manipulate live source material from the inputs as well the internal sounds, on top of the ability to store samples, so you can play with the monomachine output live using the CTR-AL machines etc... just a thought.

Good stuff. a couple of questions (if you don't mind)

1) what are you using to trigger the Mono patterns?
2) how are you automating replicant?

if i had to guess, i might say Song Mode for #1, and a MIDI machine on the MD for #2? or am I way off?

edit - nevermind.. now that i really watch it, you're obviously triggering the patterns on the Mono. don't know how I missed that the first time.

anyway, have you ever messed about with song mode?

hmmm, no there is definitely a problem with the au.youtube servers...still no vid on this side of the planet.

Chris,
not 100% sure (but about 90% sure) i have an extra pair of Elektron Rack ears. AH was out so i called Novamusik many months ago and i bought 2 sets but received 3. When i called to offer to return they told me to keep. Basically, i know i have them, just have to figure out where i would stick an extra set of Elektron ears. When i find, will drop you a line.

Nice tune.

Damn those Elektron machines are purty. Might be buying the Machine drum as i can get it for £700 if i buy it from Turnkey with the sale on. Decisions decisions...

The beat reminds me of the start of 15 steps on Radioheads new album for some reason, think its that nice crisp clap/snare goin on. The kick sounds nice and meaty too. Good stuff.
