Tooth decay open thread...
Post Comment
I spent a fair portion of the day at the dentist, and am in no mood to go traipsing about the Interwebs looking for something to amuse us all, having had my head drilled upon for quite some time.

As such, this is a topic-free open thread. What's on your mind? New music you like? Want to talk about some piece of gear I haven't mentioned? Anything goes. Anything that isn't completely and utterly retarded, anyways.

Update: personally I don't think it's JUCE after all. My current guess is that there's something left on my HD from my PoCo Element--which yes, I very carefully uninstalled before removing from the system--that is confusing the new hardware and/or software. I won't belabor the point here, but if anyone has happened to encounter a problem with a FireWire PoCo in which the system installs one driver correctly but fails to install the other, and managed to fix it, please speak up. Meanwhile I'll wait for TC support to write back to me, although later today I'll probably take another stab at trying to find outdated drivers tucked away in odd places on my HD.

That aside, yes, I got an X8 too. CR and I are kind of chummy like that.

CR try this one on for size before I moved to the PNW, my dentist started 3 root canals (she had me on the pay when you can family friend program).
So I get out here and inadvertently picked the worst dental Boeing has (they will cover about half of the root canal and about half of the crown), so I'm staring down the barrel of 7k out of pocket until November when I can change plans. Then one of the temps fell out on a tooth she hadn't finished the canal on. I'm starting to like living with the pain. I have to pick up some supplemental dental before I die, it sucks trying too catch up on the tooth neglect from our 20's.

Here is a another topic for you all.
your weirdest car crash.
I left work today and it was snowing here in Seattle that apparently means stop and go, even if it's 40 out and the snow isn't sticking.
Well I was trucking up the on ramp headed around a sort of blind corner to find stopped traffic. 68' Ford pick up 1 brand new Lexus 0, hahahahahaha.

Thanks for all the pointers on trackers and samples guys! Fiddling with Milky is pretty slick. :)

ok, sorry

but i have a question here.

what is a good sound editor for mac?

i primarily use a pc and for that i use adobe audition.

but for my mac book i cant seem to find anything like it aside from selling my soul to buy protools and peak (both of which i really dislike).

what i am interested in is something i can do standard editing with plus something that allows for basic multitracking.

obviously as i have live i could use it, but i prefer using programs designed for specific purposes.

is there such a thing?

If you just need something simple, Audacity works fine. I actually use it to record on my iBook when I just need 2-track stuff, and I have no complaints. And you can't beat the price.

link [audacity.sourceforge.net]

It is a little quirky/non-standard, and a little too buggy for power-user shit (I'd hack off my right arm before I'd use this in a professional setting with deadlines) but for home snipping/whatever, it is fine.

I'm a bit behind on using the open thread, but I just realized what I want to post.

Can anyone think of a good sub $500 condenser mic that'll do a figure of eight pick-up? I'm looking for something to compliment one of my AT-4041's in an MS configuration for on location type recording. I'm thinking about an AKG Perception 420, but would like other options.

Hm, Virus TI or Nord Lead 3? TI sounds nice quality wise, though haven't heard the L3, only the Lead 2... which was so so.

I just thought I would let you know that I am a pretty regular reader and also am a dentist. From the small sample of dentists that I know I can extrapolate and suggest that I am likely the only dentist that will ever post here. You sure seem to have a lot treatment lately and I wish you the best in dealing with tooth pain etc...
