Music Thing Throws Down The Gauntlet...
Post Comment
Apparently, Tom wants me to bring the pain. I've got three words for him, and they all begin with vowels: Apogee, Eventide, Averill.

Hmmm... I thought the challenge was to show us your actual workspace, not a close-up of your three best pieces of gear

In my case it's the overflowing ashtrays and the empty Dr. Pepper cans.

And if it's actually about my "three best pieces of gear," in terms of actual dollars spent, all three of those things are computers. The stuff in the picture is actually kind of middling in the company of my 'puters, which represent a sizable investment.

Come on guys, seriously. I mean, I can't believe anyone would rather look at some messy shit instead of an awesome rack of fly gear.

That rack kicks major ass, Chris. Although I'd love to see a decent compressor of some sort as well as decent EQs in it. I'm assuming you use plugins for that matter.

Hmm, what would be next? I'd say a pair of A7s and the 8816 and after that you could go for a 2290... someone fuckin stop me!

beautiful. now, a question... if you don't recommend Mackie/Tapco/Behringer for compact analog mixers, what DO you recommend ~$500 for a synth submixer, for example?

I recommend saving your pennies and getting the Speck X.Sum. Like I always have, repeatedly. Either that, or using your computer as it was meant, and getting a multi-input audio interface.

If you're really never gonna have the coin to get the Speck, you could do a lot worse than this:

link [www.studioprojectsusa.com]

(Note that it is $799 straight from SP, but about $200 cheaper from the mass market retailer of your choice.)

thanks... i just don't have enough inputs on my current interface and was weighing the pros and cons of adding an analog mixer vs. outboard converters vs. changing the interface.
