Deez Nutz and other subjects of import...

by Chris Randall

As expected, Adam's PACE missive garnered quite the response. (Don't even get me started.) I was fairly amused by the comments on CDM, in particular those from Matthew Davidson, who spent several posts essentially berating Adam for having the temerity to have an opinion on this subject. He said, and I quote directly, "[i]f a developer calls for a boycott of products that use PACE, yes I feel that is irresponsible. You don?t see a conflict of interest here?"

Adam rightly pointed out two facts: first, Matthew is also a developer (responsible for the GUIs of several MOTU products that I know about, and lord knows what besides) and thus by his own standards should sit down and shut the fuck up, and secondly, it is perfectly acceptable for one company to berate another, within the limits of legality in this country.

Is it irresponsible for me to repeatedly ask you, my dear readers, to not use Digidesign products, using "facts" based entirely on my own personal bias? Or to publicly share Adam's belief that PACE is stupid, useless, and harmful? As long as we're all out in the open about who we work for and why we're stating an opinion, it's up to the reader/consumer to decide. Caveat emptor and all that.

If Adam posted in forums under a different name, _that_ would be irresponsible, I fully agree. But in his missive, he mentions his ownership stake in Audio Damage quite clearly. One could, if one had an axe to grind, say "hey, Audio Damage doesn't use PACE, and some of their direct competition does. There may be something going on here," but if Adam mentioned that fact outright, which I believe he takes pains to do, then it's fucking moot.

In any event, I suppose there's nothing to be gained from attacking Matthew personally simply because I don't agree with him. So I won't bother. But I feel that he should have been clear from the get-go that he also has a horse in this race. It does change things a bit, doesn't it?

Irresponsible? Let me introduce you to Deez Nutz.

i'm glad matthew is at least admitting that he works at MOTU now; that's an improvement.

MX4 would've been good if it weren't for the sensitivity of the interface.
Try to tweak the envelopes, you'll see what I mean. It's so stiff. Ruined a perfectly good synth.

Silly, like you need to be Voltaire to have an opinion about a software product. Welcome to the 21st century.

I don't know Adam or Matthew, but I object to the belittling use of the word 'sonny.' Somehow I doubt Matthew is his senior or has earned the right to address Adam, a clearly quite accomplished engineer, in such a way. Of course, this is the land of the free, where we can say whatever 'the fuck' we please, but the denigration strikes me as gratuitous. Perhaps it's a symptom of his rather weak writing style; shallow missives peppered with reflexive and affectless invocations of 'fuck.' If you're going to say it, you should mean it, fucker. Slapdelay strikes me as an AI wannabee also-ran...eating dust. If, as you somewhat redeemingly admit on your 'About' page, you are a 'crappy blogger,' then why do it? Eh? Speak up sonny, can't hear you.

er is Performer not just serial number and disc verification? Does this not seem a little retarded for him to be getting his knickers in a twist?

its like the whole music industry, theres way too much guarding the chicken coup whilst theyre all running out the back door - and not nearly enough focus on gettin good eggs out there at a fair price.

Ahem, either way..I'll continue to support excellent plugins which are fairly priced (such as the ones by your good selves) and continue to let others be fooled into buying Waves etc because Protools has the word PRO in it.

Right on Adam and Chris! I am so tired of buggy software and hardware being shoved up my ass because its owner/creator has a higher market share than the smaller developers. Our right to an opinion seems to be fading fast in this brave new world...

"hardware being shoved up my ass"

That is NOT where a dongle is supposed to go, mister!

Just so we're clear (because I feel the point might have been missed) the retard AI wannabe that is SlapDelay is not, in actual fact, Mr. Davidson. It's a separate person who I was simultaneously calling out. (See how I did that?)

I don't want there to be any confusion. Mr. Davidson, aside from being terribly misguided on this particular issue, is not, in actual fact, an asstard. The SlapDelay fellow unfortunately is.

He also runs ProTooler, so he is, in my eyes, a Pro Tool already. The article on SlapDelay is just the icing on the cake.

I stand by my statements regarding the protooler of the cake icing, the only individual regarding whom said statements were directed. If I misquoted a name, then thanks for the clarification. It has been a long day, not to mention a long weary year, here in the Big Wormy Apple. Ciao.
