Ne? Music Open Thread...

by Chris Randall

'Tis that time of the month again. Since it's hard to keep abreast of the happenings in electronic music, what's your current favorite? (Link please, if you've got one.) And no fucking trance.

On a side note, during the NBA playoffs I keep seeing this Marines commercial (apologies to our non-US readers) and the music is really not bad, a far cry from the normal "Band Of Brothers" airs they normally use. Here 'tis. Anyone know who composed the music for this? Probably a house job, but I'm curious.

The new Gosub album, Watchers from the Black Universe, is out, and it's well worth checking. He makes electro in the Drexciya/ Heinrich Mueller style. It's on citinite records.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I'm digging Goose's "Bring It On". link []">link [] Lots of fat synth bass and cheesy synth lines.

speaking of new music, thanks for the amon tobin comment a few weeks back. I've tried to compose like that for awhile and now I have a new reference!

I've really been into Trentem?ller recently as well. His Essential Mix grabbed me as much as any I've heard since Sander Kleinenberg's. I also can't get enough of The Knife recently. Trentem?ller's mix of "We Share Our Mothers' Health" probably had something to do with that.

"No fucking trance"? Okay, guess I can't mention what I'm listening to right now while rewriting Dr. D's motion recording mechanism for the third time.

I cannot comment on the Marines commercial (you know, like if you can't something nice about the abuse of music...), but I will point you once again to Nobot here in Denver. Justin (Cacheflowe) just opened for Amon Tobin at the Bluebird and rocked that shit. I HIGHLY recommend getting a copy of "Automate Everything." It's just badass. Also, any collaborations between Scaffolding and Sarah Marcogliese that you can find will be worth a purchase. The latest is still in the matering and repication phase, but it will be a remix-fest-to-remember.

B12's 3EP still rocks 9 years on.
