Hot for checkered wristbands...

by Chris Randall

Adam and I have this running gag where he says "the JD-800 is really cool" and I say "yeah, really cool for guitar solos" and then we talk about something else because we're not complete fucking retards.

Q.E.D., I guess.

Now if we could just screw some strap buttons in the sides of that bitch like a Poly 800, this dude would be set for life.

I forgive his showboating 'cause he's responsible for one of my favorite comic strips:

Regardless of the diggs on this guy, you have to admit that he is pretty impressive doing a convincing eddie vh on the keyboard. Cheeky or not, talent is talent.

Totally not cool to be hatin' on Dave Lovelace.

I'm with stretta. Between the checkered his wrist band, his "All praise YouTube", and his throwing of the horns, methinks I detect a tongue firmly implanted in cheek.

You haters just wish you had his mad hamster-drawing skilz... er, I mean keyboard skilz.

I got the tongue-in-cheek part, but I'm still glad he didn't sing along.

Actually, I didn't know that was the Packrat dude. That puts a whole new light on it; it is obviously ironic humor, and I take back my comments.

I disagree with Shammann, though. I think that he _absolutely_ should have sung along.

I'm really torn about this Packrat guy. He seems like an amiable guy. He's frequently funny (he has lots of synth-oriented vids), and has an entire webpage dedicated to his mullets/cars he's wrecked over the years (this includes numerous Mustang 5.0's, Camaros and Fieros and those Mitsubishi hatchback things that all strippers drive... basically every car I'd never be caught dead in).

It's kind of like that Beavis and Butthead circular logic problem... they're funny because they aren't funny. However, maybe he's just not as vain as I, and is really ironic enough that he understands. But I doubt it. Oh, I do.

I mean, at the end of the day, they guy still plays Hot For Teacher on a JD-800 and probably doesn't think it's all that lame of a thing to do (even if done well). The guy programmed the entire Rush song "Subdivisions" in his 01/W for christs sake...

And whenever he talks about synths in his videos, he insists on referring to envelope generators as ASDR's (that's not a typo).

Maybe I've just a hardened Los Angeles snob, and I have no sympathy for the midwest.

In my best Jeff Foxworthy voice: "If you think that Rhode Island is in the midwest, you MIGHT be a hardened Los Angeles snob."

Damn, all this hatin' around here... it's like nobody here is past the age of 30 and nobody of course ever listened to Van Halen when they grew up. And i'm sure nobody here has an old cassette of 1984 in their closet somewhere. Hm, synth snobs.

Hot for teacher is the shiznit...didnt Vai do a knockoff with a talkbox?
I think the vid is cool...everyone has their own personal taste. Not only can the guy play with both hands, he programmed the rest of it.
