Play that funky music, white boy...

by Chris Randall

If you missed it, in the comments of a previous post, I dropped a link for some live (as in actually played) D&B which raised some eyebrows. neB just gave me a heads-up to this fellow. Personally, I find the actual music to be a bit on the weak side, but as a drummer, this dude is sick.

Amazing. It's almost like he came out of some cloistered environment in which nobody told him that D&B isn't actually played by human hands...

...or that he could buy a percussion midi controller to help him trigger samples and scene changes.

kind of makes me feel bad for ever griping that the transport button was slightly out of reach.

he's local to my neck of the woods (seattle)...and is all over the new amon tobin record (although uncredited). definitely highly skilled at drumming, songwriting tho not so much.

He's not that great, he just passes for it because of the low standards for musicianship in the electronic world. Besides half of the sound and rythm is carried by the delay & effects it seems. (not that I'm near as good of course)

You can pull up a 100 videos on Drummerworld that blow this guy away. Any decent jazz drummer, for example. Antonio Sanchez anyone? link [drummerworld.coz.htm...]">link [drummerworld.co...]

I assume from the tenor of your post that you're a drummer. That being the case, you're obviously excluded from having to make intelligent comments. One thing I'll say about that Antonio Sanchez video is that I definitely won't ask for more cowbell afterwards.

Awesome drummer. Boring as hell. Boring as fucking hell. It's like listening to an Yngwie song, nothing but instrument masturbating. The D'n'B drummer may not be as competent, but he's at least entertaining me. It's like the difference between God Dethroned and Soilwork. God Dethroned plays awesome music that entertains the fuck out of me, and Soilwork plays shredding nonsense suitable to be fucktard of the week candidates.
