Open Thread...

by Chris Randall

This is an open thread, as I'm a bit busy today. I'll post something meaningful when I get back this evening. To get the ball rolling, I need to buy some new electronic music. What's out there in the underground that I haven't heard of yet? Parameters:

1. No fucking trance.

2. Good production is a must. While I'm not a fan of BT's normal output (no offense; I just don't care for it) I _do_ like "Madskillz - Mic Chekka." I really admire the time he put in to the production of that track. Stuff like that.

3. I guess it's just those two.

Hey - this is a shamless plug - but late last year I released my debut album on chicago based Hefty Records, it's all electronically made, but you wouldn't know to hear it, anyway you can hear it all over at itunes, bleep.com, boomkat.com etc just look up Solo Andata, our records titled fyris swan
Give it a listen, could be what you're lookin for, something pretty left of center. We did a remix for Fennesz and Sakamoto if that gives an idea...
peace

In terms of great production and listenability, I'd say Surgeon (Anthony Child). He's the don.

Most of it is a bit bangin' though. A good place to start would be 'Balance' on Tresor.

1. Jackson & His Computer Band (link [www.jacksonandhnd.co...]">link [www.jacksonandhnd.co...])
-I second this recommend. Lots of people have tried to capture this idea but he was one of the few who actually got it right.

2. Claro Intellecto (link [www.claro-intelto.co...]">link [www.claro-intelto.co...])
-AWESOME production, and solid songs that vary from jack tracks to ambient (as in not just noise, but you can actually listen and enjoy)

3. Dave Aju (link [www.myspace.com]">link [www.myspace.com])
-production and ideas is what he is about. He's on the french label Circus Company-which is worth checking out in it's own right (link [profile.myspace.co...]">link [profile.myspace.co...])

-checkum out-
