Gettin' Ready For NAMM...

by Chris Randall

The Wife and I are leaving for NAMM tomorrow. We're going to San Francisco for a day, then L.A., then back to San Francisco for the weekend, as our 12th anniversary sort of coincides with this whole shebang, and like that. So I won't be posting as such until Thursday. On trips like this, I generally post much more frequently on my SMG blog, which you can find here, if you're at all interested in the less music-related aspect of our road trips, which can be quite comical at times.

I'm only going to be at the show one day, because I get the distinct impression that if I voluntarily spend more time than that at what is, for all intents and purposes, Memorial Day Guitar Center on amphetamines, I will most likely start mowing motherfuckers down, given my temperment to begin with. Now, that said, if there's anything in particular you guys want me to examine, now's the time to tell me. It should be fairly obvious as to the things I'm interested in, as they're all made by a reasonably small group of companies (Apogee, Eventide, Lexicon, Moog, et al) so if you want an in-depth review of some dumb-ass keytar or something, you need to go find another blogger.

So, with that out of the way, if you're going to be at the show, drop me a line with your booth number so I can come by and say "hi". I'll be getting email on all my accounts (both AD and Posi) on my fancy new SuperFone, so if you come by some information even day of that needs verification or some shit like that, don't hesitate to let me know about it.

Yo! Hook us brutha's up wit some Waldorf news, if any. Like, are they even comin' back? Is that vaporware electric piano gonna get real? Also, could you beat Moog up for a polyphonic?

Wow, I've been reading this blog for months and had no idea that you were Chris from Sister Machine Gun. I'd never made the connection because all my SMG albums are from back in the Wax Trax days, pre-Positron.

I want to know about that 'SuperFone'.

Get some photos of NAMM's new mascot, the "NAMMbler".

Make sure the signs read NAMM and not NAMBLA

Yeah, I plan on checking the Waldorf stuff, assuming it actually exists and is not vapour.

As for the SuperFone, it's one of these:

I was actually going to rubber-band my iPod to it (it's almost exactly the same size as a 5.5 Gen iPod) and take a picture of it, and say I already had a phone that did everything an iPhone does, but that just seemed too prosaic even for me.

You know where I'll be shackled. Look for the guy with the fake smile whispering a prayer for death.

Have you heard about the midnight nambla?

if you have any interest in OTB mixing, check out SSL's 24 channel ADDA solution, assuming they're showing. I just got one and love it.
