Those kids are grown up now. Marketing is still directed at 30+ year olds, but because they are the primary players! The parents are buying them for themselves but rationalize the cost because it is "for the kids."
There's a whole generation of adults plastered to screens playing games. Many are stay-at-homes while the spouse works and the kids are at school. Speaking of that, I'm 22 minutes late for work and I haven't showered yet.
