Industry Kudos, Take Two...

by Chris Randall

The issue with the announcements just showed up in the mail, so I guess we don't have to keep mum any more. We're pleased to announce that Discord 2 won a 2007 Editor's Choice award from Electronic Musician Magazine. 'Tis the season for these sorts of things, I guess. It's worth mentioning that we've never advertised in either Remix or EM, and I sent review copies of the plugins only grudgingly.

It's also worth noting that the runner-up in the category that Discord 2 won in is Cycling '74's "M" aleatoric software. This is funny on three different levels:

1. "M" is one of my favoritest pieces of software ever, so it's kind of unnerving.

2. Both Adam and I worked for Cycling '74. (This is, in a roundabout way, how we met.)

3. "M" was originally released like 17-odd years ago, and is intrinsically the same as when it first came out.

In any case, thanks to EM for dropping the glassie in our laps. I'll be at the awards reception at NAMM, and if given a microphone, will no doubt extemporize at length vis-a-vis my opinion of our little industry. That should be amusing.

"We would have released more this year, but we also had to port our entire product line to VST2.4 and all our Mac products to Intel, and that took quite a bit of time."

Hmmm...I better stop holding my breath waiting for the Ronin AU, and just get all the child plugins that seem to have sprung forth from it!
;-)

Not a bad idea. I'll be putting the UB of the VST up here in a day or two. I have an installer if anyone that already owns Ronin who has switched to Intel Mac wants to take it for a spin before I put it up in the store.

Speaking of spending time on VST 2.4 and Universal Binaries in 2006, in 2007 we have VST 3.0 and Vista to look forward to. I'm just quivering with anticipation, lemme tell ya.

Congrats. I hope you're not expecting a black tie event with an orchestra and a microphone. More like a hotel suite with free pretzels and ad weasels.

Last time I was invited to an EM awards event it was a garden party in a fairly nice setting, with sushi. It fell somewhere between black-tie and pretzels.

Congrats!
Discord is still one of my favorite plugins.

Actually it wasn't just Discord that won--it was our whole product line, apparently. I'm not sure how that worked. The award is for "Download of the Year" [singular] but it is awarded to "Audio Damage Plug-ins" [plural]. The write-up talks about 914, Phase Two, the Ratshack 'verb, Discord 2, BigSeq, and Ronin. It also states that we use Ronin "for internal development" which is, uh, news to me.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, mind you.
