Gear Porn Friday!!!

by Chris Randall

Okay, this is one of the more ludicrous pictures I've come across. This Doepfer/Analog Solutions/Analog Systems/Wiard/Blacet/et al system comprises 27 (!!?!!) 3U racks of Euro and Frac-Rack modular. That's right. You're looking at over twenty thousand dollars of modern modular kit right there. The MS20 and companion sequencer sitting on top look almost like an afterthought in the midst of that monstrosity.

It should be noted that the picture is, if I have my math right, short at least one rack; the news section of the site lists another rack added just yesterday, if I'm correct. This system lives in Germany, and belongs to self oscillate. His parents, the Oscillates, obviously had a sense of humor. If my last name was Oscillate, I'd name my children "Sine Wave" and "Low Frequency," I think.

I've noticed something about almost every picture I've ever seen of a huge modular synth: they aren't patched up. Draw your own conclusions.

that's because if it were patched, it would be just a picture of patch cables. I always remove cables for photos, so you can actually see what's there.
