Wow! I got a kick out of the first 4000 notes (which is like 28 secs, right?).

Luckily, Vic isn't always like that. His video with Carter Beauford is actually about music, not technique.

Oh, you wanted music? Why didn't you write that in the contract?

This seems to be a sort of exhuberant pyrotechnic interlude between actual songs...the style and sound of the playing are not my cup of tea, but what drew more attention was Wooten's signature "Yin-Yang" Fodera bass. Those things (handmade here in Brooklyn) go for around $5k. Yikes. I believe Wooten has been a professional performer since early childhood, so probably this sort of display is quite literally "effortless" for him...which implies a lot about the learning capacity of the very young (whether prodigies or not). Think Tiger Woods and Mozart. Well, when age starts to reduce his technical facility, he'll hopefully become more tasteful!

Is it just me or at about 1:02 in is the bassist playing part of the Mario Bros. theme?

the sound of this is amazingly similar to our 7 year old when she decides she wants to learn to play bass.

I like how Chris declined to classify these guys as "fucktards". Perharps there is some hidden agenda to quietly promote uber-masturbation while keeping us distracted with the likes of the Diamond Daves of the world...???

Heh. You caught me.

I can't stand this sort of display in the worst way; I'd leave if I was at a show and a band pulled this shit, no matter who they were. That said, I won't deny Vic Wooten's chops, or his resume.

I saw vic at a bela fleck and the flecktones concert and he doesn't always play like that :)
he is actually pretty good, check out the DVD Victor Wooten Live at Bass Day '98 and he's actually got some awesome non-wanking skills, and sounds like he is actually a pretty cool guy :)

Jeez, if only they played faster and louder and were wearing latex/leather fetishwear, oh, and if they looked like a character from a Tim Burton movie, that would be great.

That would be Jimno:
