Avantone Group Buy...

by Chris Randall

Okay, there seems to be enough interest in a group buy for me to persue this a bit more. I spoke to Sue at Avant, and she told me that we can't do the group buy for less than the normal dealer price of $169.00. That would piss off their dealers. However, Avant would pay shipping, so the true cost would be $169.00 per pair. She said I could do a maximum of 50 pairs. They would ship as soon as I got the money to Avant, so this will go a lot faster than the mic order. (On a side note, several people have written to say they've received their mics. So, yours are coming if you're about to write me and say "where are my mics!?!")

Anyways, unlike the Chinese Mic Debacle, there would be no minimum. The only caveat is that this will be open to United States folks only; no international orders at all. Sorry about that; Avant's rules, not mine. You can, should you desire, order more than one pair. The maximum is 50 pairs, though.

Information on the speakers is here. I don't think we'll use Fundable for this, as they really gummed up the works last time with their quasi-shitty interface and problem-prone experience. If you want to get in on this, drop me an email (don't change the subject) and let me know how many pairs you want and your shipping address, and I'll get a List together. Don't send me any money yet, though. And please e-mail me even if you've already emailed, private messaged, or posted in the previous thread.

UPDATE: email bounce fixed. Sorry 'bout that.

I was looking at the Avant site. That CV-28 looks an awful lot like the GT-44/AM-40 mic once sold by GT. All the way down to the exchangeable capsules, and pad and roll off switches. That was/is a great mic. Arguably the best of the more recent GT tubes (anything later than the MD1a, MD2a, MD3a series of original GT mics). Wonder if it is the same mic?

I guess they want to keep it US only because shipping cost might vary and get pricey for them :

I guess i'l have to send my grandmother to the US to get me a pair Lol.

My direct email is [email protected] if you have troubles with the link.

A couple of people have written me about what amps to use. I've ordered a Crown D45, which (along with the D60 and D75) what you generally see driving these in a studio.

And finally, I could be talked in to re-shipping a _few_ pairs from my joint if you can't get them any other way, and are willing to pay the true shipping cost from my place to yours. Drop me a line with your situation, and we'll figure it out.

My pair of Avantone ribbons arrived today, looking very nice, and sounding fine in the initial test on cymbals. Now I just need new cymbals, haha.

...btw, does CR-14 stand for Chinese Ribbon or Chris Randall?

THANK YOU SO MUCH CR !!

My Avantone ribbon mic arrived today as well. Looks very very nice! I'll plug it in tonight and see how it sounds compared to my Beyer and AEA mics.

Thanks Chris!!
