Analog Haven + A7 = happy Chris...

by Chris Randall

Analog Haven, our favorite gear store, will have Adam A7 powered monitors in stock shortly (Friday? Monday? Not long.) In that shipment will be my pair, of course. I strongly suggest you run (don't walk) to the A7 page at Analog Haven and pre-order your set. Now, it's worth mentioning that the price for Adam speakers is fixed (think: Apple computers) so since you're going to buy a pair anyways, and you have to pay more or less the same no matter where you buy them, buy them from Analog Haven, because it's worth supporting a good store that sells shit we like versus a sprawling mega-store like Sweatwater or ZZounds that doesn't give two shits about you and your business.

Anyways, they're a grand for the pair, and hands down the best deal in powered monitors there is right now. I'll take pains to point out that I'm in no way affiliated with Analog Haven; they're just my favorite gear store.

not that I have a grand for speakers right now, but once again I'll say that sweetwater were VERY cool about shipping outside the US when lots of places would not.

CR - You are 110% right about subwoofers. Thems for limp wristed trebble mixing soundboys

That is an excellent deal. Use this link instead:

(AI Affiliate, doncha know!)

I wouldn't buy it personally, as it's the same capsule I already have but an Octava body. But if you want to get in to the Red Fold, that's a good way to do it.

Mike hasn't sent me the Korg yet; he's busy as fuck. As for the ribbon mics, I think the first batch is going out next week.

I hear ya about Sweetwater. I ordered some of those Auralex foam pads you put under your new ADAM monitors. I got three phone calls before they shipped. I can appreciate that they're trying to bump up the sale ("Do you need a Lexicon 960L to go with your speaker pads?"), but come on already.

I've considered an A7 to use as a center speaker with my S2As. Oh who am I kidding, when will I ever mix in surround...

The A7s were announced a week after I got my S2As, of course. I still haven't heard them, and I'm a little frightened to.

I think its risky ordering a pair of monitors without testing them first (mix on them in your own studio) even tho its Adam...
Usualy monitors are unrefundable. :

Having said that,Post some mixes and a review as soon as you get them :)

yo, thanks for the tip, guys. I didn't even know these existed. You can get the capsule by itself, too. I've got a few 012 bodies that could be made useful.

and for someone not owning an 012 body it seems pretty good too, as you can also pick up oktava capsules cheap for a variety of sounds, ie:

i don't suppose they're the greatest capsules ever, but still..are the Oktava caps hateful?

"i don't suppose they're the greatest capsules ever, but still..are the Oktava caps hateful?"

They aren't hateful. I'd say they're the least offensive cheap condenser mics I own. I've used a pair with cardiod capsules for live recordings of shows and have gotten satisfying results. They don't sound good (IMO) up close to anything; I don't like them on amps and vodals.

I wouldn't pay $85 for one. I got mine used for @$40 each (mic, body, and -10db pad module).

The body/amp part comes apart easy, and the board, though tiny, has all through-hole components. So, capacitor upgrades are simple if you can handle the delicate soldering.
