Analog Haven + A7 = happy Chris...

by Chris Randall

Analog Haven, our favorite gear store, will have Adam A7 powered monitors in stock shortly (Friday? Monday? Not long.) In that shipment will be my pair, of course. I strongly suggest you run (don't walk) to the A7 page at Analog Haven and pre-order your set. Now, it's worth mentioning that the price for Adam speakers is fixed (think: Apple computers) so since you're going to buy a pair anyways, and you have to pay more or less the same no matter where you buy them, buy them from Analog Haven, because it's worth supporting a good store that sells shit we like versus a sprawling mega-store like Sweatwater or ZZounds that doesn't give two shits about you and your business.

Anyways, they're a grand for the pair, and hands down the best deal in powered monitors there is right now. I'll take pains to point out that I'm in no way affiliated with Analog Haven; they're just my favorite gear store.

I know you don't have your set yet, but have you heard them yet? Or are you buying them based on reputation alone?

The latter, coupled with writing from people who's opinions I trust. I went to all the music stores in PDX yesterday looking for a set to listen to, with no luck.

I can't afford the S3a set, which is what I'd really like to have. I know I don't like any of the other $1K powered sets; I've tried all of_them_. It is a bit of a gamble, a bit, but an educated one.

I imagine all of you that are tempted will wait for my review; it is, of course, forthcoming.

They seem to be in short supply. I've had my order sitting in Sweetwater for a couple weeks, due in July 7. I called them today, and they're not due in for another 2 weeks now.

A side note - the people I've dealt with at Sweetwater have been ridiculously friendly and helpful. I was very taken aback.

That's what I don't like about them. ;-) I ordered 2 TRS->XLRF cables and was rewarded with at least 10 emails and two phone calls. It's par for the course with them. I find their aggressive sales to be incredibly annoying; I'd rather deal with one guy I know, in a small shop trying to make ends meet.

I won't use them because (last I checked) they use FedEx Ground. I won't go into the rant of a dozen reasons why I won't use FedEx Ground ever again, but I called Sweetwater to explain and ask for help. Next thing I know, the "local" manager is personally delivering it to me in his car after hours.

Pro: Good service. Con: FedEx Ground.

Chris nailed it though. Even though I opted out of their email spam list when I ordered, I still got plenty.

One thing to be aware of... I blew my tweeters on my Adam's (we won't go into the brain fart which caused it) and apparently there is only 1 US supplier and they were *very* expensive to replace those sweet ribbon tweeters.

So be extra careful and don't blow those tweeters!

man, I'm glad someone else is thinking of buying these unheard!

I've taken some stick about my (wavering under pressure) decision to do that.
my local (physical) suppliers have all turned to shit in the last year and don't currently carry them. I either have to find time to fly to germany, or I too have to buy them on reputation and recommendation.

I'm curious to see what happens when you get yours.

Also, tell me, what are your thoughts on matched subs?

Jul.10.2006 @ 6:54 PM
Chris Randall
I don't use subs. They're a crutch for people that can't mix bottom.

you know, I should have put a bet on that. ;)

I heard a set of these on Friday at the L&M shop in Vancouver (they were either sold or on loan as i could not have them). They were wonderful. I am going to sell the Genelecs i have (or leave the window open and play Poison's greatest hits to lure the theives). Analogue Haven is the best of the best. I deal with Shawn a great deal and i have yet to be disappointed.
