Excellent pics from AES Paris...

by Chris Randall

There are lots of good pictures of drool-worth gear in this thread at Gearslutz of new shit from the Paris AES, which is just wrapping up now. Above is the full Portico line in the vertical form-factor. Highlights are the Lawo console (wow), the Elysia mastering comp (wow^2), the ADT rack (nice adonized knobs), and the new cheapie Neve line. Pictures are courtesy of Lindell.

I'm not sure how I feel about the lower-cost Neve stuff. On the one hand, you can say "hey, my studio has Neve outboard, bitches!" On the other, Neve/AMS is rapidly going the way of Focusrite, and there's a high potentiallity for a common motherfucker to bitch out at this juncture. (e.g. the Green series.) I'm sure all the 88xx stuff is nice enough, but WTF with the 9001? That's just lame. (It's also worth noting that "lower-cost" in Neve terms is relative. It is still quite expensive shit.)

did I just read you quoting Don Cheadle? or, at least his character Maurice "Snoopy" Miller from the film Out of Sight?

Tom Misner of SAE (global bullshit scam audio school) now owns Neve.

Any bets on how long it takes him to ruin the company?

On a side note, I had the misfortune to invest in SAE when I was a teenager and it was a total waste of money. The facilities are good but the instruction's worthless.

adonized = anodized?

Sure. Why not?

i just rcvd their catalog and was dissapointed to find that the vertical rack mount kit (shown above) does NOT include the wooden frame.
