Four Measures Of Fury - April

by Chris Randall

Thanks for the 20-odd emails I got pointing out that last Saturday was the first Saturday in April. ;-)

Here is your loop. It is 120 bpm (and the masses breathed a sigh of relief), and the Minimoog bass is a big fat C. As always, your loop should be exactly the same length and root key as the original. There's a lot of wiggle room in this one, and with the tempo being what it is, some more experimentation is possible than in FMOFs previous.

If you're not familiar with the Analog Industries FMOF project, here's the deal: download the loop, and proceed to reorganize/edit/destroy it to taste, then either post a link to your new version in this thread (or FMOF threads that follow it) or mail it to me. If you choose to mail it to me, _please_ zip it up. You can send me any format that Nuendo can import, which is any format, pretty much. I assemble all the submissions in to one long track, in the order they are received.

Now, the bad news. Normally, you'd have a week to do this, but I'm going to L.A. on Thursday morning for a well-deserved weekend of relaxation with my lovely and long-suffering wife, so FMOF submissions for this month must be received no later than Wednesday, 8:00pm Pacific (GMT +9). Sorry about that, but if I let it cruise the whole weekend, I'll end up having to download a shitload of wav files over some asserific hotel connection on to my poor little iBook, which won't be fun for me or you. Plus, like, I have shit to do that doesn't involve sitting in front of a computer.

So, Wednesday afternoon. Rock it!

Speaking of subjectivity, I would love to hear what TheTwio's best guessus are as to what gear people are using, since he seems to have such finely honed listening ears. Just a friendly challenge,

Mike

I don't know Twio, but I find his eagerness to press his opinions on my 4 bars of messing about frankly a little ... er, odd?

some info for those wanting to re-create such a controversial sound
drums 1:11
organ 1:11
bassline 10:1
overall yep, L2 of -3.5db

happy squashing kids!

I considered carping about dynamics some more, looked like fun.

Instead here's my entry:

The original loop isn't so different from the first one, excluding the extra awfulness in that one. Same folk who made it?

Opinions are like assholes-everyone has one...
Love this 4 measures of fury-having great gear is good, but having good ideas is great!

I've been meaning to submit on one of these since you first listed it but it's taken me this long to get round to it.

Good fun though!

i know, this is dead, and i was drunk when i posted.. and it all came out somewhat wrong. Sorry Wade and Chris.
I don't know, and it's hard to judge on such a small snippet, but hell, i was dumab and did, sorry. The new Ministry, that is unlistenable.

Merzbow, well, he does soooo much it's hit and miss, but there is crap and some amazing pieces, try Amlux.

sorry flaming or whatever, but i really did like all the contributions quite a bit.
