Hard-Core Gear Porn Friday!!!

by Chris Randall

Old Schoolers Anonymous. Check this shit out. No computer, beeyatch! He makes songs the old fashioned way. He types them in to an MC-4, one note at a time, like Real Men Used To. I assume, from the top-level domain tag of his site, that this guy is from Brazil. I also assume that he either has a trust fund or no kidneys, because there is some serious coin invested in this synth collection. Click the magic 3D spinnie thingie, and be transported to the Land That Time Forgot, and marvel in wonder at the Arp 2500 and 2600, Synthacon, Obie 4-voice, and other tasty treats.

I listened to the MP3s on the front page, and they're not as terrible as is usual for people that have this much kit. He likes Vangelis, but hey, who doesn't? On the bright side, there's no Mackie mixer in with this roughly hundred-thousand dollar setup. No danger of that. Back when the studio only had about $75,000 worth of stuff, he was on the Behringer/Tascam trip (as witnessed in the above photo). He has since upgraded to what I assume is one of those Roland V-Mix Mo 'Phatt Hard Disk thingies. Since I've never made fun of those on this site before, I won't start now.

This installment of HCGP was found and provided to me by Ace Cub Analog Industries Reporter the Siesmologist.

I went to do my duty and click a link and what has google ads provided me with for my sponsoring pleasure?

Mackie mixers at ***music, mackie mixers at cheap prices, mackie mixers!

Can you do us a favour next friday use lots of keywords such as 'gadget', 'porny' , 'toys' - rather than ones actually directing us to buy a mackie from sweetwater ;)

Yo, Homey... with the current Brazilian exchange rate a kidney will get you a 4-Voice and a Prohet VS with barely enough left over for a monster cable. My friends, this cat must own a petroleum refinery, a major inverstment bank or a chain of Brazilian bikini wax parlours to have all this shit in this condition. BTW ? Does anyone have the Devil's cell phone number? I gotta make me a deal. Brotha' needs a new ARP.

"No computer???"

Yeah, but that's the "mini studio," not the main jammie-jam. I just thought it worth noting because most modern project studios are built with the computer as the centerpiece. Most of our HCGP studios are, and mine sure as fuck is.

So it was interesting that there's one where the computer is definitely an afterthought.

i'm just cureois, cause I want to know, but what ~$1000 mixers are out there that are better than the mackie onyxes?

(I used a 1604 as a live board for 10 years, and it was great for hauling to burning man and stuff like that, but not for recording, i have to say that the onyxes are a big step up though. I like them better than the mix wizard, and the soundcrafts might sound marginally better, but with less routing options, so if you are in on some better mixer in the $1000 range (which is cheap for a mixer) i would love to know hat it is before I get my next one.)

thanks.

this bloke must be in the oil business...

Is it all synths? Where's the 808/909/303/606 combo?

This is a most impressive collection, but it doesn't look like it gets too much of a workout.
