Too... Much... Porn....

by Chris Randall

The new Audities Foundation site just went online. It is, in a word, dope. Check it out. The Buchla part is particularly drool-worthy, naturally. The one dark spot is that they don't have a complete working AlphaSyntauri.

But then again, neither do I.

I'd take the Buchla Glass Easel over a clear Gleeman Pentaphonic anyday.

only 5 instruments in the collection were dontated. the rest were purchased.. check the FAQ

the Audities Foundation is Non-profit

the Audities Studio is not.

What the heck, I'll wade in here....

No, they're not genelecs, they're ATC's and I'll stack them up against any monitor on the planet. 8K a pair and worth every dime. There are 3 other sets plus a quad/sub set up for the live room. As for the Mackies, they are for ganging the studio when the patches get wild. I use the Helios 69's for tracking most stuff and EVERYTHING with a mic on it. API's, Harrisons, Neves, etc are great, but the Helios rules for me. Just marvelous sounding.

It's not Ocean Way, but it's not your kid brother's bedroom either. What you don't see in the photos is 60K worth of extra construction/sound proofing/room tuning and infrastructure that make the place sound great acoustically. Recording synths is easy. Recording a vibraphone with a 4 band piece live is a different kettle altogether and we can do that stuff with finesse.

As for the Gleeman, there are exactly 30 black ones out there and 15 clears....two made originally by the Gleeman brothers and the other 13 by me. The ubiquitous shots you see of the clear are almost invariably this one. It's been photographed, fondled, molested, admired and lusted after by many camera toting synth geeks for years. They sound amazing.

Thanks for chiming in, David. I agree with you viz. the ATCs, and also viz. the Helios. I'd even prefer the new Helios modules to vintage API or Neve, given the choice. (And the budget.) That sidecar you guys have is, in a word, tits.

I'm dead serious about trading my Wurli 112 for one of your Pro-FX units. You need a 112. You neeeeed it! I'll even drive that shit to Calgary.

I have a SCI Pro-FX... one of the 2 complete systems at audities was once mine.. now I just have a smaller system that they sold as they were fazing them out.. called the " ambient package" - Delay, Reverb, Flanger/chorus.

cool stuff.. info here: link [www.audities.or...]">link [www.audities.or...]

not for sale.. or trade.. unless you have a Buchla Touche ;)

You Pro-FX owners are all in cahoots with each other to keep me from having one. I only want the Ambient Package. No need to get fancy.

So Chris, why the Pro-FX obsession? I'd never heard of one before, so I researched it and aside from the modularity it doesn't have any wildly exciting features.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I have mild obsessive-compulsive disorder (which would go a long ways towards explaining many of the posts on this site.) I decided I needed one to be the hub of my analog/digital hybrid lifestyle, and now it's all I can think about. I'm not sure why, and the only way to cure it is to have one.

HI Chris,

Sorry for the delay. The sled dogs are running slow here in Calgary today.
Not interested in the Wurly...but thanks for the GENEROUS offer anyway!! I will keep you in mind if I see another system come up for sale. As Rick said, the first one was from him, the second was on ebay last summer and that's the best place to find them really.

We already have a Wurly 120 in the "God when is he gonna get around to fixing me" pile. -d.
