Is this thing on? Tap, tap, tap...
Okay, both the Rocky Mountain Research Division and the Central Cascades Rainwater Collection Facility branches of Audio Damage have Intel-based Macs on the premises now.
My initial impressions were heavily colored by the fact that the firewire migration thingy to copy the personal shit from one Mac to another doesn't work for fuck-all, at least viz. going from a PPC Mac to an Intel one. I thought it'd be handy, but it turned out to actually be an exercise in frustration; my iBook can no longer see its own ethernet port, and the Intel iMac was totally hosed, requiring a complete wipe and reinstall of the OS.
So, long story short, I wouldn't try that if I were you.
Otherwise, all seems well. I'm in the process of getting all the dev tools and geegaws that I need lined up and working the way I like, and then it's off to the races. For those of you curious about the speed, it's fast for a Mac. I wouldn't say it was screaming fast, otherwise. It's much faster than my iBook, of course, but nothing to write home about. My Athlon64 machine makes it look anemic, FWIW. But then again, that machine is dimed. I'm interested to see how the pro Intel Macs perform when they come out.
