Birth, School, Work, Death...

Cacti

It's getting tedious saying "holy shit I'm working a lot sorry for not posting blah blah" but you all know that, so I won't bother reiterating the point. On Tuesday next, me and the missus leave on a much-needed vacation to Hawaii for a week, and then Adam and I are off to Portland for the TRASH_AUDIO synth meet / Muff Wiggler store grand opening, where we will (as it turns out) definitely unveil the next Audio Damage Eurorack product. This bad boy is not an effect, nor is it based upon any existing Audio Damage product.

(Nor will it be entirely done by the time we get to PDX; we'll be showing a prototype.)

Some non-Audio-Damage news, in no particular order:

1. My new album is nearly completed. It's actually been nearly completed for a while now; I have two tracks left to mix, but due to the sudden influx of Work Related Time Suck, they've been in that state for some weeks now. I hope to have it finished by this time next month. It is a full album, unlike my last few releases, and I'm pretty proud of it. IDM, of course, but emphasis on the D instead of the I, for a change. (Read: four can be found on the floor for the most part.) It is, to not put too fine a point on it, full of techno.

2. Our good friends Standard Beat Co. have a new sample set out, continuing their Dark Downtempo series with the fifth installment, which you can and should purchase here.

3. I guess it's just those two things for now.

In any event, this is an open thread, and since a lot of projects tend to come out this time of year, if you'd like to take this opportunity to do some self-promotion or talk about what you're up to, that'd be totally cool.

i'll break the seal on the self promotion thing. new _boobs_ album out as of a couple weeks ago. thanks for listening. there's a health amount of AD plugs in some tracks :) btw. EndsAD in particular.

super excited about the muffwiggler opening/trash audio synth meet for about a million reasons.. well, now a million and one since there will be a AD prototype to lay hands on or at least eyes. it will be a fun internet to IRL type event for me.

i guess saying "enjoy your vacation in Hawaii" is sort of redundant. it's hawaii and it's a vacation.. of course you'll enjoy it.

curious about your new stuff and how you're wrapping it all around 4/4 type stuff.

I've just put out an experimental Youtube drone release/sample pack made from korg little bits and an OP-1. Check it out: link [www.youtube.com]

Okay. Two things.

1. The new boobs record (and I'm sad he doesn't call the project "Boobs." There. I said it.) is quite good. But I've liked boobs for some time, and fresh boobs are always nice.

2. That dos4gw experimental thing is a fucking nifty idea. I think this concept merits some more exploration.

What AD plug is doing the reverse effect on the intro to Quadstepper, the one that's heard right about 7 seconds in ? Eargasmic tune.

That's Replicant. Pretty much any time you hear a sound played backwards in one of my tracks, it's Replicant. It's a very rare release by me that doesn't have at least one Replicant (or its somewhat more scatterbrained cousin Automaton, or both) instanced in it.

dos4gw- that's genius that is. Clever, clever, clever.
It also works if you (accidentally) listen to the boobs track at the same time.
I frequently think I'm too stupid to be reading this blog; you're all briliant.

thanks guys and please join in! post some drones up that fit the 5:14 length, tag them #DRONETAG in the subject of a youtube upload, and I'll aggregate them. post links here or hit me on twitter, @dos4gw.

sorry to turn this thread into a personal promotional soapbox. pls feel free to mod this but it'd be radical to get some other people involved here, from any corner of the musical spectrum. traditional stringed instruments? native american wind instruments? australian aboriginal didgeridoo drones? prophet 12?

@dos4gw that's a wicked idea. Any particular key... or should we just leave that be

@boobs is trying to beat Autechre at their own game! With a side of Richard Devine WTF-ness!
