Various, and also Sundry...
by Chris Randall
Coupla things:
1. Plogue has just released sforzando, a free .SFZ format sample player available for all the usual plug-in platforms, plus stand-alone. Why do I care? Well, Plogue are cool, for starters. Also, they released a bunch of free SFZ format packages pre-built, and one of them is the CR-909 sample set. You can find the samples here. David broke all the samples down so you it actually ends up with the same controls as a normal 909. Very handy.
2. Bitcom is getting close to being something approaching done. Only a couple little features left, then the inevitable fixes once Jeff Laity starts breaking the OS X version (something he has a truly irritating knack for), then out the door. Probably not by Christmas, but soon thereafter.
3. My on-going experiments On The Side might perhaps bear fruit here in the next day or two. Another interminable process video will be forthcoming shortly.
4. I'm planning an update to Phaedra; I'm moving the sequencing engine to the built-in MIDI sequencer that comes with iOS now; it didn't exist when I initially made the app. If anyone has feature requests, now's the time to tell me. I definitely plan to add a note randomizer (per key/mode/scale/whatever) so you don't need to ask for that.
So, how's your day going?

4. Loves me some phaedra. Since you asked, I'd love to be able to to have the option to change/personalize the led 'button' color scheme. (Say white or blue). Non-essential, but nice for those of us who love aesthetics.
SFZ, I grabbed Highlife by Disco DSP when they offered it as a freebie. Never used it, just learned the other day it works miracles with SFZ. Took CR's sample set of the CMU-800R, popped it in Highlife and with some boring tweaks now I can make Alchemy sound like 1982.
Thanks for the heads up on sforzando. I really dig
chipsounds and lately I have been trying to find
time to get better acquainted with bidule.
All the best to you and yours!

Any shot of getting phaedra to launch on an iPhone 5 given developments on the Apple end? I'm using Little MIDI Machine to sequence the tiny Moog app, but it's not fun to use . It spits out useful sounds, but I rarely use it because the interface is unattractive.
Thanks for asking. Orders are way up, and I have new audio hardware clients in the works, some very exciting work which will certainly be all over the interwebs in March. Life is good.
Merry Holiday season. I feel tired as most Scandinavians do this time of the year... I am trying to make a promise to myself that during the next year I will spend more time making actual music than checking out, researching and buying new gear...
Any other good suggestions for new year's resolutions?

...and eat right and exercise, blah blah blah. We can dream, can't we?
Seriously, I am doing those things.

I've been eating right and exercising for the last two months. I was in pretty fair condition to begin with, but I took it around the bend a little bit. Going to Hawaii in March, and I didn't want to look like Louis CK.

I'm sure everyone watches and/or is sick of Portlandia, but this is cringe-inducingly close to life:

A bit broad, but not really very much...
