The Perfect Monosynth...

by Chris Randall

While it's generally accepted as a truism that either the Korg MS20 or the Moog MiniMoog is the perfect monosynth, in this modern world we live in, both are horribly behind the times.

The reason I bring this up is that a side project I'm working on in my spare time involves creating a monosynth. The platform is fairly limited, so I can't put in every feature under the sun. As such, I have to limit it to about the same number of features as a MiniMoog, give or take a few. I've used the Source as the starting point of my topology, so two multi-wave oscillators plus a noise source through a LPF. Envelopes for LPF and Amp, and a single LFO.

What would you add to/remove from this topology to make it t3h awesome?

gotta go with a supersaw waveform (kidding!!!!:) ), but i would def add at least a second lfo..... seems like that is what all the kids are in for these days with dubwobbleyhearditbeforethanks sounds, but seems important nonetheless...

PPS. For a great example of awesome monosynth DSP'd sound despite its humble aliased source...Korg DS10. Love love love it.

Seems that you now have specs for an ES-2. :-/

@Peppe: Yeah, pretty much. ;-)

Legato ... and the other osc should be able to glide at a different timing.

Well capt'n obvious to the rescue and all , but limited with selectable imitations would be fairly a smart ....
Say you can have 2 LFO's and 1 OSC or 2 with 1 LFO .
LFO or PWM . Maybe a gate section like an alpha juno1/sh 101 or Korg monotribe has to use for the amp when using the ENV for filter or something else . I'm not a dsp guy , but would seam to me running it as mono instead of stereo might same some cycles too ?
