What The Hell Are They Building In There?

by Chris Randall

Let me state for the record that this is not an April Fool's prank. Homie don't play dat. This industry's habit of putting out fake press releases on April 1st is right down there with genital warts and Logic on my list of favorite things about the music industry.

Those PCBs are very real. And that's all I'll say right now.

In other news, we're forging ahead with dealing with the 64-bit Boondoggle. The easiest ones are done, and now we have to figure out how to deal with the old products. This is an especially difficult process with the oldest ones, since we've been coding the plugs with this Boondoggle in mind for some time, and the younger plugs (basically from Ronin's re-release on) are able to deal with it in a certain fashion. But anything before that (roughly half our catalog) has Issues that need to be Dealt With.

The upshot is that you'll see me saying "FUCKING LOGIC" on my Twitter feed a lot more often in the next couple months.

@synthetic: All I can say is that I have full versions of every commercial DAW (except PT) and several open-source ones, on both PC and OS X, and I can use whatever I want to make my own music. I don't use Logic.

And I used to be endorsed by emagic.

That right there should tell anyone everything they need to know.

@inteliko: Nope. No prank. I _might_ shed a bit more light on Monday. But it might wait a week or two. Depends on a couple things.

I am sad to admit that, whatever it is, it almost certainly isn't as sexy as you think it's going to be. ;-) More utilitarian.

i wish it was a replicant pedal with tap tempo. i can't tell you how many times i've cursed little tiny baby jesus because i have to haul a laptop out to take that particular razor to my solos.

this is my favorite thing to do with replicant, by the way, and i'd pay fancy eventide stompbox prices for it.

Ooh, you should try Pro Tools, I think you'd really like it.

My current DAW annoyance of the day is with Digital Performer. There is some really crappy feature where it won't allow presets to be stored in a certain location, in a way that breaks whatever Audio Units standards actually exist.

Logic breaks standards as well, but there ain't much you can do about it. They are the biggest AU-only host as far as I can tell, so they ARE the standard you have to follow.
