A Science Project...

by Chris Randall

Once I got everything hooked up, I banged out a little track just to make sure it was all working. The usual suspects are used. The interesting bit is that this is live, sequenced from the CMU-800R.

Sounds great. Quite jealous of the Space Echo - I could get lost in one of those for days.

Can I ask, what was this shot with? Was the DOF achieved via the lens or in post when you added titles?

As a side note, I love browsing the user vids on blogs like MatrixSynth, but they always look and sounds atrocious. It's nice to see someone put some effort into their little gear pr0n YouTube clips...

The camera is a Nikon D3100. The DOF is most definitely the lens, a c. 1973 Nikkor 50mm f1.2. It's not the greatest for these sorts of things, as it doesn't have a very wide viewing angle. But it drinks light and shits bokeh. If that's your bag, then it is one of the better lenses for that sort of thing. The resulting video looks cool, anyhow.

Especially one who can actually write a tune. Christ.

Great work, sir.

Those nearly three minutes went very quickly. Ebb and flow.

The total antidote to all those NAMM clips of old farts playing autistic presets that I've been bucket fed lately.

Glad you guys like this. It's a little raw to release as-is. I'll edit the pieces in to a full track and put it up on my BandCamp page for download this weekend.
