So Long, 2014...

Happy New Year, AI-ers! 2014 was, like most recent years, pretty awesome for me personally and Audio Damage as a company. I don't believe in luck (or, well, magic of any sort) but if I did, I'd think I had some.

What's coming in 2015? On the AD front, some new hardware, and some updates to classic AD plug-ins. We'll also be making our first appearance at NAMM as a company with a physical presence. On the personal front, a new Sister Machine Gun record in March, and I'm beginning the phase of my life where speaking engagements at universities seem to be a thing I do, also in March at UCSB. During the next 12 months, I am going to attempt to do a Cool Thing Every Month here on AI (t-shirt, sample pack, whatever), as well as a monthly installment of the 10 Questions video blog on YouTube.

In short, it's going to be busy. What awsomeness happened to you in 2014? (Or, well, didn't, I guess?) What amazing thing do you have planned for 2015? TELL ME, FOR THE LOVE OF ZOG!

10 Answers...

by Chris Randall

That was actually quite fun to do, as it turned out. Other than glancing over the questions in Google Moderator a couple times, I didn't do any preparation, so the answers are more-or-less totally extemporaneous. (I had to do a couple over, because I got lost in thought or digression.) Basically, I printed out the top 10 questions this morning, took a drive out to the desert, set up my Olympus OM-D E-M5, and let 'er rip. Audio was recorded on a Tascam DR-2d via a JK MIC-J 044 lav mic. (I highly recommend the latter. For the money, turned out to be pretty sweet.)

If this is something that people find interesting, I'll be happy to do it again. I enjoyed it quite a bit. If there's another form factor for videos you'd like to see, I'd be happy to consider those, as well.

Ten Questions?

by Chris Randall

So I have this idea of doing a monthly YouTube video.

"PARTY!!!" you all scream at the top of your lungs! You're all a bunch of cynics, and frankly I'm amazed I'm friends with you, because I'm not cynical at all.

Anyhow, here's my idea: you all anonymously submit questions via Google Moderator, and I'll answer the top ten in a live-to-camera video for YouTube. I won't do this via YouTube Live, because I'm not a complete idiot (present evidence to the contrary), and I reserve the right to edit gross mistakes and mis-management. So it would be sort of an AMA, only theoretically more fun.

Anyhow, I would prefer the questions cover subject matter I know something about (electronic music production, user interface design, esoteric control methodology, Audio Damage products, music publishing, making things, earning a living in the music business, touring, that sort of shit) but whatever gets voted to the top, I'll answer.

If it's fun and cool, we can make it a regular thing. If it's not fun (for me) or cool (for you) or generally retarded, we won't. But it can't hurt to try, right? I have made a Google Moderator page here. The questions won't appear in the list until I've allowed them, which means I'll just delete anything truly stupid, so don't bother asking nonsense.

If you have any ideas of how to make this come off better, or examples of how it's been done well, feel free to comment/criticise.

EDIT: Voting is closed. Filming now.
