Industry Kudos, Take Two...

by Chris Randall

The issue with the announcements just showed up in the mail, so I guess we don't have to keep mum any more. We're pleased to announce that Discord 2 won a 2007 Editor's Choice award from Electronic Musician Magazine. 'Tis the season for these sorts of things, I guess. It's worth mentioning that we've never advertised in either Remix or EM, and I sent review copies of the plugins only grudgingly.

It's also worth noting that the runner-up in the category that Discord 2 won in is Cycling '74's "M" aleatoric software. This is funny on three different levels:

1. "M" is one of my favoritest pieces of software ever, so it's kind of unnerving.

2. Both Adam and I worked for Cycling '74. (This is, in a roundabout way, how we met.)

3. "M" was originally released like 17-odd years ago, and is intrinsically the same as when it first came out.

In any case, thanks to EM for dropping the glassie in our laps. I'll be at the awards reception at NAMM, and if given a microphone, will no doubt extemporize at length vis-a-vis my opinion of our little industry. That should be amusing.

Replicant Progress Update...

by Chris Randall

Okay, Elle has made the Replicant page on the AD site live, so you can have a gander at the proper screenshot and feature list and such. I whipped out some quick demos, but I will probably replace these in the near future.

Steve Hamman put up a nice little demo on his blog, as well, if you missed the mention in the comments of a previous post. It's probably a better example of what Replicant can do. (What Replican do? Something like that.) Anywho, the AU version is out for testing, although none of the AU testers has written me back, so I'm nervous that we've created a monster or something. It works for me, for what it's worth. I'm writing presets today and tomorrow, while Adam works on the manual. In short, it's getting close. I absolutely guarantee that, unless Something Bad Happens, it'll be out before the New Year. (How's that for a caveat?)

This is a video of the prototype Bogdon Cardboard Bass. Yes, you can make one yourself. Yes, there is a kit available. Yes, it is only $49.95. This is the most awesomest thing I've seen on the interwebs in, like, months. You can order your kit direct from Bogdon, or get an assembled one for a Benjamin from Elderly. (In-store pickup only.) I'm gonna order one later today, and I'll photo-doc the process.

Rock that Wacom...

by Chris Randall

There's a very fine line between the following two phrases:

1. "Man, he's cool, in an ironically hip way"

2. "I think there's something wrong with his Max patch or something."

You're more than welcome to be the judge, as I'm not the judgemental sort. (No, not in the least.) Bleen sent me this for your sniping pleasure.

EDIT: I just realized, as I'm catching up on my blog reading that I've not been doing the last couple weeks, that MusicThing posted this several days ago. Move along, nothing to see, folks, step lively now. Mind the gap.

New Lil' Phatty...

by Chris Randall

This is probably not news to most of you, but it is news to me, having been out of touch for the last several days. Here's the "Stage Edition" of the Lil' Phatty. Gearjunkies has the story. I'll be buying one of these, for certain.
