Out Of The Orifice Open Thread...

by Chris Randall

Heading to L.A. in the morning. I've got a gallery show to go to before it closes, and on Saturday, a meeting of Close Talkers And Other Social Misfits Anonymous... errrr... I mean Trash_Audio Synth Meet 10. I will, of course, have photos on Saturday evening, but they'll all be shallow depth-of-field shots of knobs and patch cables, so nothing you haven't seen many times before. Fair warning on that.

Today I helped a friend move his studio. One of the things we moved was a CS-80. While I used to think it was cool, in retrospect I have decided that a CS-80 is only marginally less retarded than a CP-80B. At least a CP-80B comes apart. You have to move the CS-80 in one fell blow. I mean, I wouldn't turn one down if someone handed it to me, but by the same token, it'd also be nice if they handed me several strapping young lads to shift it about.

Anyhow, this is an open thread. Anything and everything. You pick it.

micronaut - trapezoid (Fun With Synthi!)...

by Chris Randall

I'm busy as fuck right now, as I've mentioned not upwards of half a dozen times. But I took a couple hours late last night to bust out this little improvisation with the Synthi. This is entirely computer-free, start to finish. It is clocked from a single shitty Doepfer LFO, which is driving an Intellijel uStep and a MakeNoise R?ne to do all the sequencing.

The sounds in the beginning are the Synthi and the Korg Monotribe. The Synthi is shitting a lot of sub bass, so if you're listening to this on laptop speakers, you're simply not hearing about half the track. The accelerando-thing that comes in every now and again is the Univox Maxi-Korg, and the other reverby thing that comes in later on is the MS-20.

I still have a couple tracks free on the tape, so I might do some overdubs with melodic shit and turn this in to an actual song. But not this day. Too much to do.
