And next on the agenda...

by Chris Randall

Is one of my friendly readers a D&B turntablist? I need some scratching on a track (it's actually just barely D&B, 165bpm which is like old-school house tempo in this age of Red Bull and Vodka) and I don't know anyone that can accurately scratch that fast. At least, not in Mill City, Oregon. There's a 32-bar solo section and some transitional stuff. Drop me a line if you have the requisite skillz and wouldn't mind helping out. Credit only, but I'd owe you one, and surely that's worth something.

Bah....

So we got stacks and stacks of boxes of CDs yesterday, two releases (my own album and Bounte : One.) Unfortunately, some hoople-head at the pressing plant got the masters mixed up, and Bounte's album has my music on it and vice-versa.

What a fucking day.

Things like this are the reason that musicians become alcoholics and drug addicts, I swear to christ. Personally, I just scream "SHIT!" and punch the wall repeatedly. Same net effect, really.

Cubendo...

by Chris Randall

For the record, I am having a couple problems with Nuendo 3 in Vista that people with similar setups should take in to consideration. Well, one isn't a Steinberg issue, I don't think. Firstly, there are no drivers available that Vista can recognize as such for my MIDI interface (M-Audio MIDIsport 2x2) so I'm stuck using the MIDI ports on my Novation Remote. However, recording MIDI that comes in through the Novation is odd; note-offs aren't making it through the clutter and the time stamping is fucked.

So, that's probably minor. The next bit is not. Nuendo can't export audio. By that, I mean that export->audio file doesn't work. You get the file/format browser, then when you select "okay," no matter what format, it just goes back to normal operation without rendering anything. I haven't been able to find any information on this particular issue, so I just nutted up and bought Cubase 4. Yes, I'm the sort of person that buys a new car when the old one gets a flat tire, apparently.

Long story short, you'll get a Crandall-flavored review of Cubase 4 in a few days.

MEA CULPA: I'm a retard. There was one checkbox which is usually ticked which wasn't. Nuendo renders fine in Vista. So ignore basically everything I just wrote. However, Cubase 4 is still ordered.

Whoa...

Now, I don't normally post shit like this, as you well know, but this is a killer deal. Red Microphones (which is, as we all know, Blue Microphones with vintage paint on them or something) has a deal running where if you buy a Type A and two capsules, you get a Type B for free. Type A details here. Now, I already own a Type B (and absolutely love it; It is my go-to mic, and I have quite a few mics) so if I rock this, I'll have a stereo, albeit unmatched, pair. I'm seriously considering this. Anyone have any experience with the Type A they care to share? I haven't read many reviews of it, but what I have read was positive.

All Apologies...

Sorry; was snowboarding today, because we got hit with a ton of new snow, and new snow can't be left un-hucked. I'll attempt to actually post something here in the next couple hours.
